NOTES: Of the castmembers featured in the first week of "Days", all but Carey, Reid, Clarke and Cheatham would be off the show by 1966. Cheatham would leave in 1973. Carey would remain with the show until his death in 1994 and Clarke until his retirement in January, 2004. Reid continues in her role as Alice Horton to this day. Chicago was mentioned by Julie, and is still mentioned often to this day. It suggests that Salem may be located in Illinois, although it has never been officially confirmed. An inside joke which still remains on "Days" is calling someone "cook" without saying "the cook." As seen by the time cues, episodes only took around 21 minutes to air without commercials. "Days" would not expand to an hour for another decade - in 1975. It now runs approximately double the time, at about 40 minutes without commercials. Also, today's episodes now usually run about 30 scenes. These episodes had only 5 or 6 scenes each. Each scene had to be shot from start to finish, since there were no sophisticated editing capabilities in 1965. Therefore, there are several noticeable times when the actors make mistakes with the script. A remarkable difference in how "Days of Our Lives" was in its first week on the air and how it is today.
